Pioneering the Next Generation of Brain-Computer Interfaces

About Brainsmart™

Brainsmart™ is a world-class pioneer in brain–computer interface (BCI) neurotherapeutics, developing minimally invasive neural interface devices that enable high-density, large-area brain signal decoding without craniotomy. Originating from the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre (ABIC) – a joint initiative between HKU and Harvard University under the InnoHK Program – we combine world-class expertise in flexible electronics, semiconductor device engineering, and clinical neuroscience.

Our flagship technology, the Minimally Invasive μ-ECoG™ System, delivers epidural, flexible, MRI-compatible neural interfaces for applications in epilepsy surgery, stroke rehabilitation, speech decoding, and tumor treating fields (TTF). With successful large-animal validations and an ongoing FDA Q-Sub process, Brainsmart is now expanding to the U.S. (Silicon Valley) to build a world-leading team for engineering, clinical translation, and regulatory approval.

BCI Machine Learning Engineer

Silicon Valley, California, USA

We’re developing reliable, robust brain-computer interfaces based on EcoG. To bring these systems to life, we need a machine learning engineer to decode speech and movement from neural signals—in real time. You will focus on turning cutting-edge research into working systems, building models and software that operate reliably on high-dimensional brain data.

Headquarters: Hong Kong  |  Manufacturing: Shenzhen  |  R&D & AI: Hong Kong & US  |  Clinical: China & US

Type: Full-time  |  On-site / Hybrid

Responsibilities:

  • Develop machine learning models for speech and movement decoding from brain signals

  • Build real-time systems for BCI applications, optimizing pipelines for low latency and real-time performance

  • Work with noisy, high-dimensional time-series neural data

  • Translate research ideas into fast, reliable production code

  • Stay current with the latest advances in BCI and neural decoding

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field

  • Strong experience with Python and at least one of C, C++, or Rust

  • Solid background in machine learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow

  • Experience working with time-series data (ideally neural or biosignals)

What sets you apart?

  • Experience in BCI speech or motor decoding

  • Familiarity with signal processing for neural data (ECoG, EEG, spike trains)

  • Experience building real-time or low-latency systems

  • Proven ability to turn research concepts into working systems

Why Join Brainsmart?

  • Work with a globally integrated neurotechnology team spanning Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Silicon Valley.

  • Be part of an InnoHK-backed program driving the future of neurological therapies.

  • Collaborate with world-renowned neurosurgeons and scientists from HKU, Harvard, and top U.S. medical centers.

  • Competitive compensation, equity participation, and leadership opportunities in a fast-scaling international startup.
